Partial Lunar Eclipse on Wednesday 18/9

On the morning of Wednesday, September 18 we will have the opportunity to observe a Partial Lunar Eclipse. The phenomenon will be mostly visible from Cyprus.

The phenomenon begins at 03:41 with the Moon entering the outer part of the Earth's shadow - the Penumbra. The Partial Eclipse begins with the Moon entering the main part of the Earth's shadow at 05:12. The phenomenon reaches it's maximum at 05:45 with the Moon at an altitude of 8 degrees over the western horizon. The Partial Eclipse phase ends when the Moon exits the Umbra at 06:15 shortly before moonset and sunrise at 06:31. The entire phenomenon ends at 07:47 but this stage will be invisible as the Moon will have already set.

Partial Eclipses occur when the Moon grazes a part of the Earth's shadow. They are easily observable with the unaided eye as the darkening of the Lunar surface is noticeable but can also be enjoyed photographically.

Here are the stages of the phenomenon in local time (UTC+2 with Daylight Savings Time)

· Partial Eclipse begins - The Moon enters the Umbra: 05:12

· Maximum Eclipse: 05:45
